“We arrived around 7.30pm and there was no availability in the restaurant or the electric bar for food. I was forced to order room service which was fine except they charge an extra £5! The room was sub standard. The mirror in the bathroom was taped up in the corner and could be pulled off the wall. We were put in a wheelchair accessible room which I didn't understand because there were other rooms available when I booked. The grab rails in the bathroom were split and glued back together and there was no room at all for toiletries. There was no light or dressing table for makeup etc. Breakfast was good and the staff were very welcoming. Parking was not an issue because they charge £12 per night. I was met by an extremely defensive and frosty receptionist when we checked out. I questioned the parking charges which I think are excessive ( Another example of business exploiting the fact there is limited parking in a city centre) She actually said "So you don't like Lincoln then?" That's rude and not what I said. Hilton hotels used to have a personal touch to them but now it's just another chain with nothing unique or different and no personal touches at all. I stayed in the beautiful Hilton in the Bahamas and the staff could not do enough for us and greeted us like we were friends each time we came back to the hotel. I stay in the Hilton in London and the staff are lovely. The Waldorf in London is fabulous. The Hilton in Lincoln is sadly lacking in lots of ways the first would be the reception staff. I do not expect to be spoken to like that and will not let it pass without letting someone know that their staff clearly need retraining or replacing. From years of experience within the retail and customer facing sector its not acceptable to make a customer feel unwelcome.”
