Augustana House A wonderful hotel – so glad we found it. The best thing about it, the staff – who were so pleasant and helpful, from my original email enquiry, through booking and how we were treated during our stay – nothing was too much trouble for them. The reception is 24 hr, and we arrived at 11PM, tired after a long day travelling, the door was answered immediately, the lady took us to the annexe explaining everything fully and showed us to the room and explained how everything worked. The hotel also organised an airport pick up for us, the communication from the driver (text and whatsapp) was excellent, and when I paid no request for tip and genuine surprise when I gave him one. The entrance is no 3 – there are 3 iron gates and you have to buzz the hotel reception to get them to open the gate – you then go to the right and the hotel door is up some steps, with another intercom there. The hotel is a small boutique hotel, I think in the main building there is reception and 5 rooms, 4 upstairs and one downstairs beside the breakfast room. Then, in the annexe building along the street there are 4 further rooms. The entry to the annexe is with key through an iron gate (with glass between iron, then you have to carry your cases up some steps, then there is an old style elevator that takes you up a further floor to the annexe rooms, where a further key gives access to the 4 rooms, then a key to access your room. The front rooms face the river and a busy street, and the rear rooms face a “city view” small street and other buildings. We were in the annexe and a rear room as we had asked for a quite room, and it was quiet – we had no issues with noise at all. The windows have an electric shutter, then the windows close and there are further internal shutters. The room and bathroom are of an extremely high standard, we were very happy with our choice of hotel. The shower fan is from a switch on the wall – not the roped switch in the shower which I pulled first morning and found is the SOS cord – bringing an immediate call from reception! There was plenty wardrobe space with 2 full sized wardrobes, one of which contained a small safe (just too small to take an ipad). There is a kettle in the room so you can make tea/coffee, and a small fridge which is the minibar, but has enough room for a couple of bottles of water and some milk. The mini bar prices are in the desk drawer, but there is a small Carrefour Express just behind the hotel, 2 – 3 minute walk away. TV – all Italian channels – but loads of channels – found some good music ones. Location – the hotel is situated on the river on the Spanish Steps side. There is a very busy road beside the river, and the rooms with river view some of which have a veranda would see a lot of traffic and road is quite noisy, although our room was very quiet. I would also say in general as soon as you enter the hotel and annexe buildings you cannot hear the traffic noise. Trevi Fountain – 13 minute walk from Hotel (from google maps and correct I would say). Spanish Steps – less than 10 minute walk – leave the hotel, turn right until first junction, turn right and Spanish steps are straight ahead – 3 to 4 blocks walk. Colesseum – 32 minute walk. St Peters Square – 24 minute walk. Vatican Museum Entrance – 29 minute walk. We found the hotel centrally located for everything and everything was walkable – we found ourselves walking average of 15 km per day. We did buy a 72 hour open top bus pass, 63 Euros – but found on days 2 – 3 we walked most places and only used the bus once on the 2nd and 3rd days. We never used the Metro – but this would be easy I think. Wifi – very important for most now – in the main building connected t a secure wifi connection – no issues at all – and when checking in was asked how many devices and got a separate logon for each device. In the Annexe you connect to another wifi network, open with password sign in, which is quite secure according to google, but I seldom managed to get connected with my windows 10 laptop, but phone and ipads no issue at all.

I loved this hotel. Amazing location, helpful staff, modern & stylish room. I decided to upgrade to room with balcony over the river and so happy that I did. Breakfast was perfect (sweet & savory options including eggs if requested). I will definitely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone else.
