“Tricky finding a good budget hotel in Paris because there are none. That's what I've concluded after 30 years of looking. Paris is easily the most expensive city hotel-wise in the world which may have something to do with it. And one reason it is so expensive is that there are not enough hotels in Paris, so just about any type of room can be rented out for just about any money. But there is the Timhotel Montmartre. Trouble is it's not particularly brilliant either. But it is incredibly romantic and has a Art Deco charm all of its own. However don't pay less than 120 euros for a room otherwise you'll be sorry. As the cheaper rooms can be disappointing. That 120 euros or so, will get you a 'superior double' which should be okay. And book through the hotel, forget the websites and deals, because you'll unlikely to do any better price-wise through them at this particular place. Not a super brilliant hotel then, but for the atmosphere and charm - a gem. And one last thing - it's in Montmartre, which I regard as the cultural center of Paris, not a place miles away in the sticks, which can so often be the case with budget hotels in this shatteringly beautiful city.”

“The major problem with this hotel is the noise. We stayed on the side of the hotel facing the plaza, which is filled with people at all hours of the day and night. The true problem came at 3:30 in the morning on May 7, when a group of drunk men were making extremely loud noises outside our window. Our windows were closed and we were wearing earplugs, yet could still hear them clearly and were unable to sleep at all. I went to the front desk to complain, but the hotel was unwilling or unable to control this situation. The general attitude I experienced from the staff was: "if you want quiet, you should not stay in this hotel." The receptionist said something to that effect to me the day I checked in (Friday afternoon, May 6) when I asked to switch rooms to the side facing the street. There are an abundance of hotels in Montmartre and in Paris generally. I see no reason to stay here.”
