“It was a fantastic stay at Pestana hotel, all was great (location, fresh tasty food, spectacular view from the room), only small drawback I noticed was that gym and outdoor/indoor pool and spa was open from 9am. Wanted to start my day earlier in the gym :) however, it wasn’t a big issue since there are plenty of cool places near the hotel for running and doing exercises. Highly recommend this place!”

Just dropped in for a beer at the pub attached to the Carlton.we are staying at the Grande this time but this place is lovely we just could not book at time of booking as it was full. Just had to revisit as the last holiday we had in Maderia was here. We had to cancel our stay earlier in year because of Covid and having an operation sate pending.

Thank you making our our stay a special week as we were celebrating my wife's birthday. The chef made a beautiful tasty cake which was presented to my wife on her birthday. We celebrated her birthday with a couple of friends and staff were courteous to us during our stay for the whole week.

We have stayed at this hotel many times over several years. The location is ideal, midway between Funchal and the Lido area. We have lunch regularly at the pool bar - staff are friendly and efficient and the food is tasty - we have open cheese toastie with chips. We haven’t had full meals at the hotel for a few years - we are vegetarian and the choice was poor to say the least. The rooms are good with beautiful sea views and views to the harbour but this is a 5-star hotel with 2-star towels ( more like sandpaper) and lovely showers spoiled by ever fluctuating water temperature. Staff are invariably helpful.

We have visited and stayed at the Pestana Carlton a number of times over the past few years and our recent stay was just as good as the first. It is a comfortable well appointed hotel with access to the sea, something rare in Madeira. Staff are friendly and helpful, the bars and restaurants are well cared for and comfortable. It is very well located, a short walk from the town and port as well as, in the opposite direction, the promenade. I recommend it.

I stayed here in Sept 2021 for 1 week and enjoyed it so much that I returned for 3 weeks in November. The staff work tirelessly to make my stay enjoyable. One member of staff was outstanding and I made an effort to obtain his name. I think it is Manuel Viveiros!!! His manner and welcoming skills are excellent and his management in the dining area was perfectly balanced and well executed. Without embarrassing him I sincerely hope he gets the recognition he deserves...... Room 1004.

I wasn't so sure when we arrived at the Pestana Carlton hotel. The reception area looked a little tired and the hotel looked too large. I could not have been more wrong. We had arrived early and our room wasn't ready so the reception team looked after our bags and showed us to the Garden bar where we were given complimentary drinks. Our room was bright and comfortable and we had great views across the garden and to sea. There are pools on two levels. The higher one giving great views whilst the lower one is at sea level and accessed by lift. It was great being able to swim in the ocean. Breakfast is a buffet with plenty to choose from. Traditional continental breakfast, a variety of fruits and bread as well as cooked options. This is great value. The evening meals were run on a different theme each evening. Again, a great selection of salads, hot courses as well as sweet and cheese. There is also a Taverna option which is much more laid back and requires booking. The hotel staff were excellent and friendly. We had a great week and although this was our first visit to Madeira I am sure we will be back

Visita más que excepcional, hotel limpio, con una calidad de alimentos buenísimas, servicios que van más allá de atención al cliente. Fui con mi pareja de vacaciones unos siete días y nos sorprendió la atención más que excelente desde el camarero de los desayunos hasta el personal que realiza la limpieza de las habitaciones siempre atentos.

I stayed in the hotel for 6 days and experienced nothing less than wonderful service at every level. Every member of staff was very polite and helpful. The rooms were done to the perfection ,the food was delicious and verity plentiful. The swimming pools which l used regularly on daily basis and its sea waters were pristine clean and regularly checked. The whole hotel has a beautiful layout and there is something for someone to enjoy. Highly recommend it😁

Para o preço e bastante caro, não tem assim muito bons quartos , e nível de alimentação não é para ser 5 estrelas. O parque para os nossos carros tem um grátis com poucos estacionamentos e o resto pagasse. Para além da estadia ainda tens que pagar para o carro a €1.20 hora.

Marquei quarto fui instalada em apartamento sem informação antecipada. Pouco cuidado na observação do que está em falta (toalhas de banho, roupão, gel de banho, etc). Almofadas muito pouco higiénicas. A decoração do hotel necessita de um upgrade. Os pequenos almoços deixam muito a desejar. Esperava mais de um hotel 5 estrelas.

No es un cinco estrellas. Necesita una reforma y actualización. El buffet del desayuno masificado. No hay zumos naturales. Las maquinas de café tipo oficina no funcionan. Una noche pedí un mojito...y no sabia a nada... El personal muy agradable. Ubicación junto al mar muy buena.

A very nice hotel with a great location overlooking the Ocean. As with all Pestana hotels, the staff are wonderful, really friendly and helpful. It's not really what I would call a 5 * hotel, but it is very good. Food is excellent, lots of choice that should appeal to all. I stayed in August 2021 and there were lots of families here, I don't have Children myself, but I'd suggest it's a great place for them. There are 2 large pools, neither of which were ever overcrowded. I've docked a star for 2 reasons. 1. The kids are allowed to run riot. Even during the BBQ nights there were kids running in and out of the tables screaming. I realise this is the fault of the parents, but none of the hotel staff took any action. I don't accept this in a 5* hotel. 2. The really slow service in the main Bar. Just one person taking the orders and another serving them. We were there some afternoons and evenings, it was always the same. From sitting down to actually getting your drinks was typically 30 minutes. Again, not something you'd expect in a 5* hotel. In the restaurant and poolside bar, the service was superb, plenty of staff with tables being cleared really quickly. Don't let this review put you off, it really is a nice hotel, but it's not a 5* hotel.

Excepcional hotel em localização, instalações e atendimento. Precisa de renovar alguns carpetes mobiliário dos quartos mas é natural que ainda não o tenham feito em virtude de quase 2 anos de crise no turismo que estamos a passar. O staff mostra que tem uma excelente formação no atendimento ao cliente e são todos - sem nenhuma excepção - muito simpáticos, prestativos e atenciosos. É um hotel onde sempre voltaremos quando regressarmos ao Funchal.

Um clássico que não desilude Passamos uma semana de férias, de 18 a 25 de Julho de 2021, e a verdade é que que no dia do check out já nos apetecia voltar. A equipa é sensacional e fez todos os esforços para que, a cada momento, nos sentíssemos únicos e especiais. Sem querer ser injusto com os demais membros do staff (apenas por não ter registado os nomes) assinalo a eficiência, profissionalismo e muita simpatia da sempre bem humorada Ângela (food and beverage manager) Victor, Raimundo, (Restaurantes), Marcelino, Christian (Bar)e todas as outras e outros que dos restaurantes às piscinas nos trataram com aquele saber receber que só na Madeira se sente ecom os quais muitos colaboradores do grupo Pestana, sobretudo de unidades no sul de Portugal Continental, deviam aprender. Assinalamos com agrado o entrosamento da equipa sénior, a passagem de conhecimentos destes para os mais jovense o “arregaçar de mangas” dos superiores hierárquicos concretizada, por exemplo, na noite em que as diretoras cozinharam para os clientes. O Pequeno-Almoço, Almoço e Jantar são bons e o Zarco (falcão) assegura-se de que as façamos tranquilamente na esplanada. A qualidade dos alimentos é adequada, a variedade e quantidade condiz com o estatuto e categoria do hotel As instalações, de um hotel com quase 50 anos, pela sua manutenção e atualidade, farão certamente inveja a muitos recém-inaugurados. Há duas piscinas exteriores fantásticas, uma, no jardim, a uma quota superior e outra, a oceânica, ao nível do mar com acesso direto a este, um interior, um “mega” jacuzzi (fechado devido à Covid19) espreguiçadeiras e guarda-sóis em quantidade suficiente para todos os clientes, queiram estes deixar o terrível e parolo hábito de as marcar desnecessariamente. Há 3 restaurantes, pelo menos 3 bares, lojas e outras comodidades. A limpeza, quer dos espaços, comuns, quer sobretudo a dos quartos é irrepreensível. A vista é fantástica, a paisagem exuberante e, não obstante estar a 5 minutos a pé da marginal do funchal, é possível o relax absoluto. Para um hotel inaugurado em 1972 mantém uma forma invejável. É certo que há pequeníssimos aspetos a requerer reparo, mas estou certo que a equipa de manutenção está atenta. Gostamos, recomendamos e muito provavelmente voltaremos.

Ficamos alojados numa suite familiar, com vista mar. O quarto era mesmo muito bom, de grande qualidade e conforto. A casa de banho era fabulosa, e todo o quarto era enorme e muito confortável. O pequeno almoço muito muito bom. Em relação ao hotel, apesar de aqui e ali detetarmos alguma falta de manutenção em termos de pintura, ou desgaste dos materiais no exterior, nós adoramos a experiência. A repetir sem dúvida. A gerência do hotel deu um miminho no aniversário da minha esposa. Foi um gesto fantástico que foi surpreende mesmo! Muito obrigado por terem transformado a nossa experiência na Madeira ainda mais fantástica.

Limpeza do quarto fraca, alcatifa nunca foi lavada, internet no quarto muito fraca ou sem sinal, elevadores sujos apenas limpam os espelhos deixando o lado de dentro das portas por limpar.Manutenção do quarto muito descuidada, paredes com esquinas partidas e porta de entrada com dois tipos de verniz.Bebidas a um preço exorbitante, e pode se constatar que quem consome só o faz uma vez optando posteriormente pela água.Refeições ( pequeno almoço/jantar)fracas para a classificação do hotel.Vista mar do quarto e piscinas são os únicos pontos positivos.Estacionamento a cobrar é inaceitável face as condições do mesmo.

Absolutly stunning place. Good packages available. Clean. Cleaning service daily. 2 outside pools and 2 inside pools. Access to the sea. Safe and secure. Good accessibility. 10 min walk from the centre.Good entertainment. Absolutely working hard during covid. Car park is paid for. Bed is so a bit too hard for my taste. Good balconies. I've stayed at the beach club this is the self cathering. Had all the cockery and cuttlery and kitchen was newly fitted. Stunning views to the sea

I actually enjoyed to stay in Carlton even tho those 5 stars are definitely an illusion. I'm leaving this rating based on the porters behaviour of commenting girls who would leave the hotel, and yes, we were commented as well by this 2 older porters and noticed. Absolutely disgusting. To complement our staying, i was bitten by a spider during the night which led to inflammation. I do not recommend this hotel as compared with any nearby this actually deserves 1 star

LOVE THIS HOTEL We have been visiting and staying at the Pestana Carlton for almost 20 years (sometimes staying twice a year). It is a lovely hotel and perfectly situated for an easy walk into the centre of Funchal. The swimming pools are stunning and there is also direct access to the sea. The staff in all departments are friendly and always happy to help. Free Internet access is available in all areas of the hotel. Unfortunately due to Covid not all bar and restaurant facilities were open last time we visited in September, but there are plenty to choose from not far from the hotel. We know we will receive a very warm welcome in reception when we return next week and I will update this review on my return.

A restaurant on par with the finest of Manhattan and Miami. This is an EXPERIENCE restaurant for people of fine dining experience not those who expect a chunk of meat and chips. When you see 6 and 9 course meals realize it's a mouthful artfully arranged and plan to eat again when you get home. The service is superb the view 25 floors up in a glass elevator and 365 degrees in the restaurant AMAZING. If you are afraid of hights there's an inside elevator and tables away from the glass walls.The tables are well spaced There is a patio bar with a DJ if you'd rather not eat.Every drink your little heart desires. The prices aren't bad compared to what you'd pay in UK or USA and I'd advise dining like a millionaire at least once and this would be the place to do it.

Éa 2 vez neste hotel. De 5 estrelas tem muito pouco. Pagámos o valorde um quarto duplo p montanha e mesmo com valor inferior ao de vista p o mar é muito fraco. Minimalista sem nada , nem um papel e lapis .. Não sei se pensam que roubam ... s chinelos.. bar vazio pouca diversidade nos produtos de casa de banho ... realmente uma desilusão. P 5 estrelas.

The hotel is indeed dated and does not look like a 5 star place but it's decent for what you get. One of the few still operating during covid times. Very clean and very covid secure. Location is great as its only 15 minute walk to the centre. There are lots of restaurants and mini supermarkets near by. Hotel very accommodating as i had to isolate due to pcr test and arrived at 9.30am. Early check in without any hassle or fees. Breakfast buffet is nicely handled with all restrictions. But there wasn't much variety in the items and very much catered to British cuisine. Indoor pool in the health center was not warm enough. The fitness center is very sparse and very hot being next to the indoor pool area. The bed is two single beds pushed together, which can be quite annoying. You can hear noises from the hallway through your door but the place is not very much occupied so it's quiet most times.

Firstly, I liked this hotel. Big room, really helpful and friendly staff (particularly at breakfast) and well located for almost everything. Inside the hotel is a little dated (think 80/90's), but it does lend a certain charm in areas such as the "Tavern Bar". Outside the hotel is really nice, with very well maintained gardens and terraces, lovely pools and pool bar. The indoor pool and facilities are good too.

Hotel um pouco datado entre outros aspectos para um 5 estrelas. Limpeza excelente. Facilidade de ir para o centro do Funchal à pé e outros locais. Vista muito bonita. Porém estamos num grupo de 6 casais e em nem dos quartos nossos têm, pelo menos, água. Inadmissível isso para um hotel 5 estrelas. Já basta os quartos serem tão antigos quanto a rua da praia. Vim do continente para cá com tudo nos conformes, testes de covid feitos e sou recebida desta forma? Quanta decepção.

Excellent excellent excellent. We spent a week in a perfectly positioned junior suite on the 10th floor. The views over the pool area and the sea was breath taking. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. The positioning was just perfect for walking into town, sightseeing and to countless restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.

Our first time at this hotel and we think it is great. We normally stay at the Pestana Palms but this is better for facilities, and location. We can also swim in the sea every day. Excellent hotel!

Everything was fine except for it being a bit outdated and the coffee was bad (really need to get a barista and a good coffee machine), but the service was good and everyone was very nice.

Staff are fantastic. We got a great, large room with brilliant sea views. (Other rooms seem smaller and some without sea views). Can't comment on food as did not eat at the hotel. Great distance in between Funchal and the Lido. Fantastic restaurants near by

El hotel esta muy bien situado, al borde del mar, con salida directa al mar. Las instalaciones están bien. La piscina cubierta y con jacuzzi es un lujo. Las habitaciones son amplias, la cama enorme, el baño muy amplio y la limpieza buena. El único pero es que la piscina de agua salada esta cerrada a pesar de estar en la primera semana de julio.

Las habitaciones que dan al mar tienen una vista única y alucinante de bonito. Hotel que está a unos 10 minutos andando del casco antigüo. Está sobre un acantilado con playa de piedra de acceso privado

Estancia espectacular. El hotel es una gozada muchos servicios y todo muy cómodo. Desayuno muy rico amplio y variado. Se ve que necesita algo de remodelación por anticuadas algunas zonas pero está todo en perfecto estado.

Gran hotel de lujo situado en primera línea del mar, tiene 18 alturas que con ello consiguen compensar las grandes inclinaciones que tienen en la isla de Madeira, es más que un hotel, muy completo en cuanto a los servicios y múltiples terrazas, piscinas, comedores y tiendas. Además tienes gran variedad de actividades acuáticas y excursiones! Solo un pero, no todas las habitaciones miran al mar, como ponía en el folleto en la agencia

Una maravilla de complejo hotelero, las habitaciones amplias, lástima que no den todas al mar... el personal es muy atento y servicial, el hotel cumple con casi todos los servicios necesarios. Las vistas del lugar son espectaculares y las diferentes alturas que hay en las varias terrazas y piscinas, hacen ellas solo, que merezca la pena haber venido a Madeira. El desayuno buffet es muy completo y la zona de desayuno es muy bonita ya que puedes estar mirando el mar en la terraza o dentro con el aire acondicionado, pero el lugar muy espacioso

Excelente relacion calidad-precio, con una situacion excepcional, a orillas del mar sobre un acantilado,con playa privada, embarcadero. Las habitaciones son grandes y espaciosas, destaco las familiares con jardin propio y acceso directo a la piscina. Las instalaciones son magnificas, varias piscinas de agua de mar, en diferentes niveles, una de ellas climatizada. Y dos piscinas interiores, en una de ellas con chorros y Spa, y la otra con jacuzzi. Y un embarcadero donde puedes acceder a actividades deportivas (surf, snorkek, submarinismo....), asi como darte un chapuzon en el oceano. Dispone ademas de parque infantil, minigolf, baloncesto y club infantil donde dejar a los mas peques divirtiendose mientras te refrescas. Las zonas de restauracion son magnificas. Varios bares piscina (1 por cada piscina exterior) y varios restaurantes tematicos para ofrecer un abanico mayor de posibilidades. El restaurante principal dispone de una bonita terraza donde poder desayunar viendo el mar. El hotel cuenta ademas con supermercado, peluqueria, tienda de regalos, y prensa internacional. Volveremos seguro.
