“I recently paid nearly twice the normal rate here to book what I was told was an “Oceanfront Suite” with “sweeping ocean views.” As you can see from the pictures, just about the only view from my window was of the hotel’s rusty roof. When I spoke to Mel the front desk manager about this, he told me that the best he could do is wave the resort fee. I explained to him that I would have never booked the room had I known it didn’t actually have a view of the ocean as promised. He immediately became very rude and told me to “deal with it”. I disregarded his impolite tone and politely asked if I could at least have a late checkout as my flight wasn’t until the afternoon and he said that the best he could do was 12pm (as opposed to 11am). I asked if I could pay for later or extend the room and he said that they were at “100% capacity” and “even if I gave him a thousand dollars” I couldn’t extend my stay. I said okay and left only to look online to see there were in fact MANY rooms available from different sites. I then called the hotel directly and was told that yes, there were many rooms available. I walked back in and informed Mel that the hotel was telling me they were definitely not at capacity and there were many rooms available. I politely asked why he would lie to me when I was simply trying to pay to extend my stay. He then got angry and told me that my checkout time was back to 11am and if I tried to book another room he would “refuse the booking”! I said “you would turn down revenue for the hotel to be spiteful and petty?” And he just smiled and waved at me. I said “sir there is no reason to behave this way and there was no reason to lie to me about the hotel’s occupancy”. At which point he began to become more rude and insulting, embarrassing me on my vacation and creating a scene. I can honestly say I have never experienced such poor customer service from a hotel before, such a complete lack of respect for a customer. I have been staying at SLS properties for years and almost always have a great experience, but this will be my last time ever staying at one of their properties.”
